WOMEN EMPOWERMENT BUSINESS HUMANITY
Arzo Yusuf was born in Kabul, Afghanistan during the invasion of the U.S.S.R. Her great uncle was the former Prime Minister and many family members held positions in parliament as Governors & Senators. During the coup d'etat, her family was in danger of being killed. They made a decision to escape for a chance at freedom. Her parents wrapped her in a blanket that they carried between mules as they rode through the harsh terrain. The journey was dangerous and she almost died. She and her family sought refuge in Germany for two years before coming to America. Upon arrival, they were political asylum refugees that started with nothing. See upcoming events.
Arzo has experienced her fair share of life adversity like learning how to balance dual cultures, being the first Afghan family to experience divorce and helping her younger brother through his fight with cancer. After his passing she faced a debilitating depression that negatively impacted her life and lead to a suicide attempt. She fought through it facing years of anxiety but through a practice of meditation and spirituality she learned how to live again and find happiness. Later, she spent time taking care of an ill parent with a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders including becoming a care taker for a younger sibling during that time. She also lived with an abusive domestic partner for almost 5 years until she found the courage to leave the relationship and start a new life. She rebuilt a life full of positivity, dreams and goals bigger than she thought she could achieve. She attributes becoming a certified sailor as a monumental building block that helped her find true confidence. See upcoming events.
Arzo attended the University of Southern California to study Accounting. Her work history has mostly been as an Operations Director for start ups to mid-size companies, Business Development as well as Consulting on process improvement strategies for businesses, billion dollar corporate, legal and insurance companies. Arzo is trained in Adult Learning Theory which has significantly contributed to the success in her delivery of difficult concepts. She has a knack for finding implementable solutions to problems and being able to communicate new ideas and subject matter to her clients and audience. She's been responsible for the creation and implementation of training management systems. She's very proud of her time working with a product distribution company helping them grow from a 5 person office to over 100 employees with east and west coast facilities. She helped build the skeleton for each department creating processes & procedures, hiring and training staff. She's also helped organizations she's worked with increase revenues by millions of dollars. See upcoming events.
After spending four years as President of a non-profit organization, Angels Nest, helping former foster youth, learning what they go through and how broken the system is, she committed to raising awareness on this issue knowing that if more people become aware of what's going on and the dire circumstances of these youth, people will take action. This work along with reading Foster Girl, A Memoir by author, Georgette Todd inspired Arzo to make this film. She Directed & Produced a short documentary on problems that affect youth in foster care through transitioning out of the system. Georgette Todd is also featured in the documentary. Arzo screened the film publicly for the first time in 2019 at the Wilshire Screening Room in Beverly Hills where 100% of ticket sales were donated to Face Forward International. A write up about the film was featured in Imprint News, the largest publication on foster care. The film has received national attention which has led to some states implementing the solutions featured in the documentary. See upcoming events.
Growing up, Arzo was actually a very shy child in public and in class found it hard to speak up. She didn't like being noticed and wanted to just blend in. Over the years she realized that being this way would negatively impact her life so she made a constant effort to put herself in uncomfortable situations forcing herself to speak and grow. Arzo has now been a public speaker for many years giving keynotes, hosting events, facilitating workshops and speaking on various topics including social entrepreneurship, networking, leadership, women empowerment, confidence, body positivity, self esteem etc. She truly wants women to realize their self worth and says it's what holds them back from everything they want in life. She believes that once women learn how to connect to their inner power they can lead lives that are happier and more fulfilled. She most recently gave a TEDx Talk on the connection between foster care, sex trafficking and what any person can do to create change right now. Click to see topics covered.
